Hoover Forest Preserve along the Fox River in Yorkville, Illinois welcomed us to majestic woodlands full of arbors, ravines, and river views. Last weekend, we searched for a new forest escape and really hit the jackpot with Hoover Forest Preserve. Just spectacular!

Hoover Forest Preserve is a popular camping site and we could definitely see why! The campsites are nestled in lovely wooded sections of the preserve. Driving in and embarking toward the trail, we passed by several campsites and noted how wonderful it would be to spend a few evenings in nature at the preserve. In addition to campsites, Hoover also has bunkhouses and facilities for meetings.
Soon, we became totally enveloped in the woods. The first trail we hiked was a paved trail. We followed this trail through woodlands kissed by fall all the way to an outlook providing a view of the Fox River.

The view of the Fox River from Hoover is quite beautiful. We enjoyed observing the river framed by trees just turning fall colors. An egret dazzled us from across the river. I love to scout along waterways to see if I can spot waterfowl!

The 400-acre preserve features approximately 5.5 miles of trails some of which are open to equestrians. In addition to the paved trail, we also traversed crushed gravel and natural trails. At one point, we walked along a ravine with a fabulous view.

As we continued our hike, we crossed a creek full of the bright colors of fall leaves. Beautiful! There are so many things I love about fall but seeing a sprinkling of multi-hued leaves creating a rainbow in a meandering creek has to be one of my favorites!

We took a natural trail back to our car. On the way, we discovered a children's natural play area. The preserve is home to a nature-based preschool program thus encouraging a love of nature at an early age. Overall, we were pretty impressed by the natural beauty of Hoover Forest Preserve. Our amble through the preserve gifted us with a perfect fall afternoon.
