The weekend is almost here and maple sugaring events have started! Here are my picks for weekend fun:

March 4 Maple Syrup Harvest, The Preserve of Highland Park, 10AM-12:30PM, take a short hike to learn how to identify the right tree, how to tap, and more, $12 pp, two time slots, must register, ages 6 and up
March 4-5 Paleo Fest, Burpee Museum, Rockford, special exhibits and experiences, see online, register via eventbrite
March 4 Dino Day, Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, Oak Brook, 10AM-4PM, touch real fossils, put together 3-D puzzles of dinosaurs, living history interpretation of Mary Anning, the first female fossilist and more, $5 admission per child, regular admission adults and seniors, registration for certain activities
March 4,5,6 Festival of the Sugar Maples, Coral Woods, Marengo, 10AM-3PM, learn how maple syrup has been made throughout the years with real outdoor demos, registration is required
March 4-5 Make Glass Shamrocks or Flowers, Patterson Glass, Mundelein, 10AM-4PM, $40, please reserve space
March 4-5 Sap's Rising, River Trails Nature Center, Northbrook, 10:30AM and 1:30PM, walk in the sugar maple forest to learn how maple syrup is made, free but must register 847-824-8360
March 4-5 Maple Sugaring Days, Creekbend Nature Center, St. Charles, 12PM-3PM, learn the folklore of the sugar bush, see how syrup is made, free but there are treats for purchase
March 4 Elmhurst St. Patrick's Day Parade, 12PM
March 4-5 Maple Syrup Hike, Ryerson, Riverwoods, 12pm-2pm, various times to register for, must register, $6 pp, learn how maple syrup is made
March 4-5 Maple Sugaring, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 1PM-4PM, discover how sap becomes suet using tools from the 1890s, $5 suggested donation
Sunday, March 5
March 5 Guided Nature Walk, The Grove, Glenview, 9AM-10:30AM, look for signs of early spring, look for feathered friends that visit in early spring, kids under 12 must be accompanied by an adult
