Rocking Out to Airness at Citadel Theatre in Lake Forest, Illinois: A Wonderful Evening Full of Rock, Humor, and Heart

 

Rock Out to Tunes and Witness the Heart of Air Guitar During Airness

Airness invited us to rock out along with a cast of unique and humorous yet touching characters. Settling into our seats to await the production, we noted that the set hearkened back to our younger years watching musical acts in small venues and pubs. Walls lined with posters of our favorite bands brought back memories and transported us for the evening to a world fun of frivolity, music, and heart.

Quickly, we were welcomed to the world of air guitar competitions as new competitor Nina learns that her talent as a guitarist does not necessarily translate to prowess at air guitar. When Nina begins her journey, she seems to dismiss the other air guitar competitors as misfits. However, she learns that her assumptions are incorrect as she realizes that there is more to competing in air guitar, She also learns that her fellow air guitarists each have their own stories and are full of heart. We felt the soul of the production come through as we learned more about Nina's new friends and witnessed her development as air guitaring becomes real to her.

With twists and turns, we were definitely surprised by a few reveals during the show. The overall cheerful humor of the plot and the interesting character stories kept the audience engaged. Well, and of course, we enjoyed rocking to our favorite hits. Classic rock tunes drifted us back in time with blissful nostalgia. Each time a hit went on, we saw the crowd sway! Truly fun!

The acting seemingly effortlessly just wove us right into the story. We enjoyed how the actors played off of each other and also conveyed a true passion for air guitar and the camaraderie of competing. As the unique persona of each character unfolded, we were further engaged by the story almost feeling like one of the group.

Once again, Citadel Theatre whisked us away for an evening full of fun and whimsy offering us a bit of a respite from our long week. The productions at the Citadel are always entertaining and the acting is superb! Airness is at Citadel Theatre until May 21, so don't miss out!
